Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve tried to answer some of the more frequently asked questions below.  If you wish to know more about what we do, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via phone, email or social media – we will only be too happy to help!

General Questions

Is there car parking available at your showroom?

Yes, we have plenty of free parking.  Our showroom does get busy so please remain vigilant for other vehicles coming and going.

What payment methods are available?

While we accept cash, we also take card payments over £10. We accept most major debit/credit cards (Visa/Maestro/MasterCard) apart from American Express.

“What about Fire Safety Certificates?”

The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988 (as amended in 1989, 1993 and 2010) set levels of fire resistance for domestic upholstered furniture. It is illegal for furniture (whether manufactured in the UK or abroad) not to comply with these regulations. These Regulations are enforced by local Trading Standards departments.

Permanent flammability labels must be carried on all items of furniture with the exception of mattresses, divans and bed bases. Furniture sold as a collection of items, such as three-piece suites, must carry a label on each individual item.

Display labelling indicating ignition resistance needs to be attached to all new furniture {excluding mattresses, bed-bases, pillows, scatter cushions, seat pads, loose covers (sold separately from the furniture) and stretch covers}. Furniture sold as a collection of items, such as three-piece suites or a set of dining chairs, must carry a label on each individual item.

Can you repair electrical goods?

We currently do not have the resources available to repair electrical goods so any items you want to donate must be in working order.

What evidence to I need to qualify for concessionary prices?

If you are on Universal Credit or any other means-tested benefits or are a student you will need to provide some form of documentation to prove this e.g. student card, Universal Credit statement or benefits statement.

Can I reserve any items that I see on Facebook?

Currently, you can reserve an item for 4 hours. This can be done by sending us a message via Facebook or contacting us by phone. If you wish to purchase the item then you must come into the showroom to pay for the item within these 4 hours. Otherwise, after 4 hours the item will be taken off hold and will be available for anyone else to purchase.

What if I notice that my furniture is damaged when I receive it?

All furniture is sold “as seen” and given that most of our furniture is pre-owned it may show signs of wear and tear.  Each item goes through a quality control inspection upon collection to make sure that it is usable.  Please check the item carefully in the showroom.  If you believe damage has been done while delivering the furniture, please get in contact with us so that this can be resolved as efficiently as possible.

What size beds do you sell?

We sell a range of new beds and mattresses, from single to super king-size at various prices according to quality.

What should I do if I want to volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering, please call and speak to the Manager.  All enquiries are very welcome, and we will do our best to accommodate you where we can.

Are you disability friendly?

Yes, we are. We have ramps and wide doors that enable wheelchair users to access our premises.

Are you dog and child-friendly?

Yes, though please understand that for the safety of everyone involved both children and dogs cannot be left to their own devices while in the showroom.

Donating Goods

What is the best thing to do if I wish to donate furniture?

If you have furniture to donate, call to speak to one of our team who providing we can accept the goods will then arrange a collection date with you. If the item(s) will fit in your vehicle please do not bring the items to us at the present time without first speaking to one of our team to arrange an appointment to do so. Items must be clean and reusable. Soft furnishings must have a fire safety label – see Donating Goods section. Electrical items must be in working order.

“What items can’t you ReUse and therefore can’t accept?”

  • American fridge-freezers that need to be plumbed in
  • Office or computer desks
  • Bureau
  • Armchairs on their own
  • Items without the necessary fire safety certificates, as stated above
  • Ikea bed bases without mattresses
  • Cot beds (see SMILE London & Essex for these items)
  • Hi-fi units
  • Integrated white goods
  • Very tall Ikea or similar flat pack wardrobes

We will take only pine or modern dressing tables and sideboards, and Ikea beds complete with mattresses. All bedframes need to be dismantled. We do not collect small items unless they are part of a larger single collection.

Delivery / Collections

I’d like to buy from you, can you deliver furniture?

Yes we are able to deliver furniture and white goods into your home in a Covid-secure way. Our logistics team will wear suitable protective equipment and we ask that you respect the social distancing guidelines when they are in your home. For details of where we deliver click here Buying from Us

Do you deliver and collect on a Saturday?

Currently we do not have the resources available to undertake deliveries or collections on a Saturday.

Can I choose a delivery and collection time?

We are not yet operating the full timetable for our delivery and collection service following the recent re-opening of our premises. Therefore both delivery and collection slots will be more limited than we would wish and so please bear with us until we are able to revert to our normal 4-day timetable. We will always try to take into account dates and times that work for you.
